Classic Mujaddara – Mediterranean Rice and Lentils

I’ve been using this Mujaddara recipe for years, it is a great supplement for a big Mediterranean meal, or a meal by its own as it’s full of proteins and delicious. Don’t forget to serve it with some Tahini sauce.

Instructions
  1. In a big pot, put the lentils in the water, add cumin, salt and cinnamon and cook for 15 minutes
  2. in the meantime - start frying the onion in the oil. fry on a low heat until it becomes brown (I usually fry it 40-50 minutes)
  3. Add the rice to the cooking lentils for another 30 minutes, lower the heat and cover.
  4. when the rice and lentils are ready, combine with the fried onion.
